Frequently Asked Questions
General
What does the name Ela Lane mean?
Ela is Greek for “come,” and Lane means “path.” We walk a path of sustainability, luxury, style, and comfort. Our mission is to create the softest sheets on Earth without harming our planet or its people.
Where are your products made?
All our products are made in Portugal. This shows our commitment to ethical practices. They are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. Our sheets are organic. We take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously. Our products contain no harmful substances. These certifications ensure our products meet high standards throughout production.
What are the benefits of using organic cotton?
Organic cotton is very soft and safe for your health. It promotes sustainable textile methods and protects farmers and their families from exploitation. It also reduces exposure to harmful toxins because farmers grow it without toxic pesticides or chemicals.
What is the impact of Ela Lane's sheets?
We’ve created a durable, high-quality product. Over 10 million tons of textiles end up in landfills each year. By extending the life of our linens, we help reduce environmental waste. Read more about our mission here.
Is your packaging eco-friendly?
Each organic bed linen is wrapped in Ela Lane tissue paper and sealed with a thank you sticker. All the ink used is soy-based, acid-free, and FSC-certified, providing a premium, eco-friendly packaging solution. We place the wrapped product in a mailer box made from recycled Kraft paper.
Our Products
What is “thread count,” and does it matter?
Thread count refers to the number of threads woven across and down in one square inch of fabric. Some sheet manufacturers claim that higher thread counts are better, but others argue that fabric quality is more important. Some use thin, low-quality cotton to increase thread count, which can lead to breaks and pulls. These sheets may feel rough. Ela Lane uses high-quality fabric. A 300-thread-count Ela Lane sheet feels softer and lasts longer than a 1,000-thread-count sheet from other brands.
What is the thread count of Ela Lane sheets?
We make our sheets and duvet covers from high-quality organic cotton. They are single-ply with a 300-thread count. Our sateen sheets have a higher warp-to-weft ratio. They are made with a three-over, four-under pattern. Our cotton percale uses a one-over, one-under weave. This creates a crisp finish that softens over time.
Do you offer fabric swatches?
Currently, we don’t offer fabric swatches, but we plan to in the future.
How deep are your fitted sheets?
Our fitted sheets are 17 inches deep. They fit the deepest mattresses, even after washing.
Do your sheets wrinkle?
One hundred percent organic cotton wrinkles more than conventional wrinkle-resistant sheets. But those sheets often contain harsh chemicals or waxes. All Ela Lane products are chemical-free and made from 100 percent organic cotton. Check our care guide for tips on keeping your sheets looking great.
Should I wash my sheets before using them?
We recommend washing your Ela Lane sheets before use. This removes dust and ensures a better fit. Your sheets may shrink a little after the first wash.

How does your process differ from that of other bedding companies?
Unlike most companies, we control every step from the organic cotton seed to the final stitch. This ensures quality, sustainability, and ethical practices.
What makes your Portuguese artisans special?
Our artisans have generations of textile expertise. Portugal is known for its fine textile production, which combines traditional knowledge with modern techniques.
